Adrian started his musical life as a cathedral chorister and lay clerk picking up piano, double bass, tuba, photography, caving, and long-distance motorcycling along the way, as well as farming and reading theology! Spending two years at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, Adrian studied with Adrian Beers and Rodney Slatford, freelanced in London and was the Choirmaster at St Giles Cripplegate before joining the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO). He is involved in teaching, youth orchestra training and music education, and is a co-founder of the Scottish Bass Trust.

May Halyburton is a Scottish Double Bassist & Bass Guitarist. She has freelanced extensively as an orchestral, chamber and session musician, both nationally and internationally, May is a passionate music educator, teaching double bass and bass guitar to players of all ages and stages. She regularly coaches youth orchestras from school to national level and is a tutor with the Benedetti Foundation. May is a published author and created her project, Bessy Bass, to help promote music and the double bass to children. As well as being a Trustee of the Scottish Bass Trust, May also sits on the Boards of the Assembly Project and Edinburgh Youth Orchestra

Scottish double bassist Andrew Robb is recognised as one of the UK’s leading jazz bassists, combining an international performing career with an extensive reputation as an educator living in London. Winner of the European Society of Bassists Jazz Competition in 2018, he has performed throughout the UK and Europe with artists including Julian Joseph OBE, the WDR Big Band, Salena Jones, Micah Paris, Valery Ponomarev and Rebecca Ferguson, and is regularly engaged for commercial recording and broadcast work.

Alongside performing, Andrew is professor of double bass at Junior Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London, Senior Lecturer in Jazz Bass at Leeds Conservatoire, Lecturer in Jazz Repertoire at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is an endorsing artist for Remic Microphones, a Trustee of the Scottish Double Bass Trust, and was named the arts representative in Scottish Review’s 20/20 Vision: Young Scots of the Year.

James Robb is one of the founding trustees of the Scottish Bass Trust. He is a retired children’s orthopaedic surgeon who came to Edinburgh in 1987 and still enjoys playing double bass in two amateur chamber orchestras.
